Build 83

Hey all,

Build 83 is now live. Changes:

  • New "dungeon"
  • New god & loot
  • 10 second grace period after logging into realm before enemies attack you
  • Players blink red when low on HP
  • Fixed reproduction bug
  • Fix undead dwarf textures
  • Fix Paladin textures
  • Make slots have lighter background

Out of interest If you hit the black do you die? me and miaow spent goodness knows how long carefully zipping along those coloured lines worried about being cast into oblivion. It would be good to know if i was worrying for no good reason. Smiling

No, you can't fall into the void of space at the edges of Sprite World. I considered this but it seemed too evil.

I would like to fall into the void

I would prefer that the void send you back to the normal realm. Or it can teleport you to some lower floor of the dungeon, forcing you to climb stairs to get back to the main floor. The point is to slow down the players in the dungeon so they don't just RUN through the dungeon.

Maybe make the red flashes happen a little earlier? It seems like it starts at 1/8 of our health... maybe 1/6, 1/5, or dareisay 1/4?

Also,

Is it just me or is the lag picking up to previously unheard of levels? At first I just thought it was because the server was near brimming, but even with just me the game seems sluggish and unresponsive. The kind of sluggish and unresponsive... that kills.

red flashes

i think that the red flashes come at 20% of your HP. we did an experiment and i think that this is what we got.

@Zuboki - Yeah yesterday when we were god hunting I had some massive lag the whole time. It was fine most of the time, then I lagged and ended up in the middle of 4 bosses including a white dragon and Medusa, and as I was only a new 20 priest, Died before I could click refresh Sad

Don't know if that was with you zuboki but I remember lagging a lot with you yesterday.

type of lag?

Could you describe exactly what you mean by lagging? If you hit 'F' while playing it will bring up an FPS display, is the FPS really low? Or are creatures behaving in abnormal ways (e.g. moving really fast, jumping, etc.). Or does the game become unresponsive for bits of time?

Okay!

Well, typically the fps stayed around the maximum. During times when lots of people are on, it drops to 40 or so, and movement becomes sluggish- you press the key, wait about a quarter of a second, and then move. At times, the little FPS counter reads zero- That's when everything goes to hell fast. If you're in the abyss at that time, you get lava'd. God hunting? The screen freezes for a second- then you end up 8 squares away in whatever direction you were moving, typically ending up at a severe strategic disadvantage (death). It'll usually jump around there for a while, between 40 and 0, before going back up to 40 or 50 for a little while.

as for creatures jumping- this typically happens in the last thousand before Oryx. It's less of a problem, but still a noticable effect.

The new GUI

Not a big fan of the new slots look. I know somebody suggested that change before, but I think black backgrounds just made items look nicer, especially potions (which just scream out for an outline, at least).

When I get lag it means my screen and my mini-map goes peculiar. The monsters shoot across the screen like an arrow then dissapear, and on the mini-map everything (both players & npc's)go to the outside of the mini-map screen, stay there for a bit (almost make a green red border around the mini-map) and then all descend back into view like an implosion (including players who are the other side of the game world), my screen fills with monsters, my minimap is all but a coloured dot at the middle and then they flux out again. Everything is obviously still where its supposed to be, and still firing, but its like my characters just had a quart of mescalin and gone blind. I have to run around a tree whilst all this is happening (controls are perfect) hoping that i dodge until things settle.

Another thing is the fog of war, if i go straight in a line I catch up to it and it won't let me past for up to ten seconds. Like I'm faster than light or something.

It can make it quite difficult when your trying to go hunting with another player. It maybe that I need to sit on the roof or something.

In the middle of godhunting we were at the top of the map and suddenly everyone and everything started moving fast all around the map. It was really annoying.

About the Lag

They've described it pretty well, but for the most part it's definitely server lag. It's obviously a lot worse when the server is busy.

gui item boxes.

I suppose you can just have every item come with its own background color, then the background wouldn't matter, as it would only appear when there is no item in a slot. Plus, this would allow you to use all available colors for an item image.

Inventory Lag

It seems lag is tiggered by inventory actions.
Ex.
1 Go to Empty Server
2 Start Killing monsters, notice the smoothness
3 Wait till a monster drops loot, pick it, go to the edge of the explored map
4 Notice the lag?

If you enter dungeons you need to wait a bit, otherwise the inventory lag of using an item will pass on to the dungeon.
So ya, that's what I've observed. I don't know if other people using their inventories lags everyone, but seeing how medusa is with just a handful of people I'd say yes.
