Build 84
Hi everyone. Build 84 is live now:
- Different stat caps for different character classes
- HPGen and MPGen are now Vitality and Wisdom
- SPD now governs only movement
- New DEX stat governs fire rate
- Add dex boosting rings and potions
- Items can now take you over the stat cap
- Removing items at the stat cap no longer permanently removes points
- Fix lava damage bug
- Lava damage now penetrates DEF
Please post with bug reports. We are particularly interested in the balance effects of the new per-class stat caps.

What does lava damage penetrates defense mean?

Derp, I assume it means that it deals a set amount of damage, ignoring the DEF level of your character. Meaning, it is not taken into the equation, thus having no effect on the actual damage dealt.

That was my first guess. Second guess was that it did damage to defense before doing damage to HP. But that's not really what penetrate means.

Yes, this would be good and help people choose which class they want.
I like the changes actually, it gives more variation of classes.

Great idea to put different stat caps on different classes. Puts a clearer line between classes and makes multiple classes interesting to play, instead of just one or two.
It's also good that the gods aren't so easily farmed anymore, 'gods' were a bit of an understatement in 83

I did find one dex potion in Sprite World...
Not sure if they drop outside, though- fighting gods is a slow slow ordeal for me.
Here's how it is:
There are only two monsters in the entire game that drop dex potions.
One is in the Abyss.
Both have 2% drop rates.
There is a greater dex ring available though... In the Abyss with a 2% drop rate.
Oh man what the hell
I was all excited about this update, getting ready to see my wizard finally shine, and then I run into this. Ah well. Guess I better get my eyes used to sprite world...
Although, this is a good point to raise in the Archer vs Rogue debacle. The only folks who get obscenely high dex will be the ones who can and do survive abyss. I guess dex pots are the new "Most valuable item in the game", and abyss will lose the cooperation aspect that made it so much fun and just become another everyone runs to grab the loot dungeon.
I doubt that.
The Abyss is a dungeon that even the maxed stat players were reluctant to go. Now with the current limits on stats, going alone is almost suicide for the unskilled.
Dex pots/rings aren't dropped by just any Abyss monster, they're dropped by THE abyss monster: Brutes of the Abyss. They'll ace any non-knight player in a few hits, no matter how high their defense is.
And knights trying to solo them, even with the maximum 87 armor, will have trouble. Since their lower speed and dex means they'll take a lot more hits. And their armor no longer protects them from lava, so a few seconds in the lava will be brutal.
Then let's not forget that the two dungeons are dropped only by the two toughest gods out there.
Not quite what I mean
My point is that when you assemble a fitting party to explore the Abyss, of perhaps 5 level 15-20's with at least 1 healer, you used to stay together and go through the dungeon as a tight team, never going into mad loot grab mode until possibly the very end with Malphas. Now, everyone will scramble for the brutes' drops, and if it's a dex potion, you'll have 4 rather annoyed people to one happy one. It's like the undead lair with hp gens, only you can't solo it (yes I know you solo'd it but quiet you). I'm not just postulizing this- I've seen it happen twice tonight for the greater rings. Also, there's a lot of risk involved, as you said, and not many people are willing to go there in the first place. Hell, tonight I asked one player who had his dex maxed because of the transition if he wanted to join us, and he simply said "why bother?"
I do like the idea of the demons dropping stat potions rarely, even if it does involve a mini-loot grab battle. I just hate the exclusivity of specifically dex potions so that you either have to put up with loot-grabbing battles or you have to go to sprite world (which is rare and a pain on the eyes).
If Medusae and Djinn dropped Dex potions instead of speed or if there was a level 20 exp loop as suggested in another topic that rewards players with a free point to spend in any stat, it'd be different. But as it is now now, I really don't like jumping through all those hoops.

Hmm... It looks like pretty soon, all the great items will be Abyss-exclusive. I already miss the days when you could speed up your attack noticeably with two Greater Speed rings.
