Props to Locke for finding the one remaining potion glitch - spells can be switched with potions and activated by non-spellcasters. Using armor and rings in place of potions appears to be fixed.

I cracked open Cheat Engine, and playing with a ring did not allow me to isolate my attack stat for modification. Whatever's being done prevents trivial cheating efforts. I might suggest storing stats in multiple locations and with differing methods, if that isn't what you're doing already. Run a check every minute or so, with some dire penalty if there's a discrepancy.

Well, all of my feeble attempts at cheating have failed so far because I'm a noob cheater anyways lol. Good work. I think I read in a tutorial on cheating once that some games store similar variables (such as health and magic) in the same location in the memory... if so, try and avoid this... it will make it harder to cheat, even though I've had no successful cheating attempts at any game anyways.

That's not how it works. You can easily locate where the data are in the memory, regardless of how much you spread them around.

  1. Keep a record of your data (HP, MP, etc.)
  2. Take a snapshot of the memory
  3. Locate possible matches
  4. Change your data (take a hit, restore MP, etc.)
  5. Take another snapshot of the memory
  6. Compare the results and repeat until you find your data
  7. Change data in memory to affect the game

Hacking tools can automate most of the above for you.

For a client-server program the proper way to secure it is to not trust the client. Verify data sent by clients, and perform important calculations on server instead of on clients.

However RotMG is written in Flash; that and to lighten server load I guess the devs have taken a bunch of shortcuts, letting the client to do many of the processing, thus allowing people to cheat by feeding the server hacked data.
