Build 118.3 is Live!
Hey all,
Build 118.3 is live in production. Most of the changes are behind the scenes to address lag and other issues. Here are the visible changes:
- First Oryx encounter updated. Specifically:
- Oryx has more HP
- During his "If I see you, I will kill you" phase, Oryx fires at a slightly higher rate.
- During his initial ring phase, Oryx will repeatedly fire an unavoidable nova effect that inflicts quiet. If you've remained in the ring, you will need to fight him without mana. Folks who stay outside the ring will need to contend with minions and deadly satellites that orbit the ring.
- Necromancer heal now visible
- "/teleport [name]" command
- Pirate Cave walls look slightly improved
- Equipment tooltips now show which classes can use an item
- Soulbound bags are only visible to person to whom they are bound
- Mouse wheel zoom now works when focus is on map
- Choose spawn point based on enemy density
Let me know if you run into any problems.
Thanks,
Alex

Should be visible by others. I watched someone waste a def pot because they didnt come back even though i was telling them where it was and they were still within range to see me
Now they will be wasted even more

About Oryx
During his initial ring phase he blasts us all with quiet. And he has satellites orbiting the ring too. Will those satellites be attacking the inside of the ring? If so i predict mass deaths

His nova quiet blasts a lot further the ring and you get quiet for a normal time.

Minions drop a lot of stuff at start but nothing after.
Seems to fire a little bit faster.
For the def pot thing :

Invis SBs are a bad idea
Adding my voice to this, for whatever it's worth.
I can't remember how many times someone has pointed out an SB drop to me in the Godlands. It gets frenetic sometimes, and you don't always see everything drop. I remember coming across an SB bag with my name on it moments before it disappeared on me before I could grab it, and with the already low drop rates it was frustrating to lose a guaranteed pot.

dislike this build
The oryx quiet feels cheap, especially when quiet lasts 10 seconds, it would not be too bad if it did not zap all your mp, but honestly it feels cheap to me.
I dislike that soulbound bags are not visible to others simply because there are many times I miss my own soulbounds in godland, this will increase the number of soulbounds left on the ground.
/teleport also needs some restriction right after a persons name is called out in killing an event- "I have many more Pentarcts, Dalek"- than 10 people telleport to me after i just solod it
the rest is good though
i didnt even think of that
i didnt even think of that horrible teleporting flaw.
I don't see how the quiet is cheap really. I mean, classes dont really NEED their special in the ring, and if you are good enough you dont need healing. its where the skilled shine.
The name ingame is Exorcist. I play in USEast. Remember it.
"if you are good enough you
"if you are good enough you dont need healing."
Read: "if you aren't lagging too much, you don't need healing."
Oryx is lag city. Dodging is often just not something you can do.
All quiet in the ring
The reason for quieting everyone in the ring is simple: mobs were killing Oryx very easily. All you need is a couple priests and everyone in the rings could survive while pummeling him to death. It required no skill and was a cheap way to take him out. Quieting everyone eliminates this strategy for all but the strongest players.

I will admit to this heinous crime. I stopped reading after a little while.
Would you care to recap what was good about it? Is it just that you don't like people begging you for stuff? Because that's a pretty silly reason compared to not being able to tell people they've missed soulbounds.
-1 for invisible loot
First off, thanks for all the hard work that went into this build. I played about 10 minutes, and the lag does seem to be reduced (even with 60+ people in the server).
I do agree with everyone else on here (that counts!), though, the invisible sb loot is a step backward. I now can't tell if a bag is JUNK, or a pot, without investigating...which may draw gods or cause me to take a bunch of damage. I used to only rush purple bags, but now...I have to rush them all.
I do wish the pot drop rate had changed, as well. Oh well, maybe a future build.

Sound keeps cutting out
Every time I go into the realm and start fighting gods my sound cuts out. I have to reload the webpage for it to return.
I use firefox and am currently playing assassin. I tried this on both west and east, so I dont think it's a lag issue and it happens as soon as I start fighting gods.
re: no names on SB bags
This could be an issue for severely colourblind players. If they can't differentiate between a normal bag and an SB bag without their name on it then they'll have to check every bag on the off chance that one is an SB for them.

Loving the new pot drop rates! Oh wait...
-
I was loving the new, challenging oryx., right up until about 5 minutes ago. I went into oryx with a large group of people, and apparently they missed the memo. So, as was normally the case, about 60 of us head into the circle for phase 2, with most people thinking they'd have healers to save them (I'm assuming).
"Lol noobs gonna die," I thought to myself.
Then the quiet hit us all. And I lagged the fuck out - dropping to about 2 fps. I knew I couldn't move, unless I wanted to charge straight into oryx's circles. So I had to sit there, being unceremoniously pelted by bombs, with no MP to heal myself. It got to the point where I had no option but to Nexus.
I escaped with about 30 hp, and if a Pally in there hadn't gotten a boost off right before the quiet, I'd probably be dead.
That said, all the other Oryxes I've been to so far have been great fun, and a great challenge. But the lag experienced with a large group of people in the circle is incredibly cheap. Perhaps we just need to give everyone time to catch on.
Soul bounds
I really don't see the big deal about it.
If you are staying till what you're shooting at is dead, then you'll see your soul bound. If you are try to get 18% on as many targets as possible, you might deserve to miss one or two. Let's be serious though, the pot collectors never miss their own drops, so it won't affect most of the people on this board.
Also, look at the positive, you won't have as many asshats(read a certain few notorious knights and pallys) trying to lure on you after they see you collect a soul bound =).
some people do. if there are
some people do. if there are huge crowds of gods, its easy to get lost. if you get low on health, you can lose track.

@jbolin: So you've never been
@jbolin:
So you've never been killing a god and then had to back the fuck up because you got swarmed? It can get pretty confusing trying to backtrack after killing a big group that you had to back up from.
Also, one time someone pointed out a sb def pot to me that was completely obscured by a wall from my camera angle.
@EST
While I'm not 100% certain, I believe colorblind people will see a shade of purple as blue, so the bags should still be distinguishable.
@Green Rect
I've been swarmed and had to back up while watching a purple bag drop. It sucks, but having 5 people say "there's a soul bound" isn't going to help you pick it up. You still have to fight your way back in to get it.
Besides, if you're in a group of 3+ you'll continue to steam roll forward to the path you just left, and you even have a mini map(which leaves parts you haven't uncovered shaded) in the upper right corner to help guide you =). Even if the map was uncovered all around, I'm confident that you are skilled/smart enough to remember where you just back up from...right?
If you are soloing, you are probably taking your time to pull gods and are not getting swarmed unless tele'd/lured upon.
Again, seems to be mountains out of mole hills.
SB invisiblity
even when they were visible i would still miss a few
also to be 100% sure you got your pot, do a circle method. Walk in a large arcing pattern to attract some gods without getting hit by being ahead of shots. The walk backwards while maintaining the large arc and shoot backwards. Finally continue in the direction you are heading, but make the arc very sharp to be sure the mob dies and you fly over its loot, this only works with staves/wands
Or just do the really easy and dumb approach of straight lined rush to drag a god of 2 out, then kill them. But at same time make an extremely large circular pattern with those straight lined rushes. Kind of like exploring but explore the places you have already found
P.S: i feel like i should make my battle tactics/potting guide post now

It depends. Because of the
It depends. Because of the way gods reproduce, it's not very uncommon for a LOT of gods to hang out in close proximity, like 6+, and for them all to get pulled by once even if you're not charging in. And then to kill them you have to back up in weird directions to avoid djinn and constructs, and then you can't figure out exactly which way you were going anymore. And with a priest, at least, you're not going to see whether anything dropped anything until you're done killing, as it all happens off-screen.
But you're right, this is a silly argument. The main point is that SOMETIMES people will call soulbound bags that other people didn't see. It does happen. There is no need to remove this feature, not a single advantage to not being able to see that other people got soulbound bags. It's also interesting to see how many potions are dropped total in a group, rather than just seeing your own, which is now completely impossible.
Like really, what the hell is the point of this update? It's not that it makes everything horrible, it's just making the game a bit worse for no reason. Why?
Can't you see Green, update had 2 features...
1.They wanted to provide more graves in Oryx for people to scramble over.
and, this is the most important one,
2.They just wanted to grief the pot collectors a little more before they fixed the drop rate...right?...guys?
Lag
Also, thanks for working on the lag issues, but I am still getting a lot of lag spikes and disconnects, even when there aren't that many people in the realm.
I've tested my connection and I can get to everywhere else just fine. The forums lag out for me when the lag spikes for me in-game, too, but I can still load other websites fine, etc.
Every Mothers Day needs a Mothers Night.
I really don't get any lag in
I really don't get any lag in this game. None. Unless MY internet connection goes out for a few seconds due to the cable. I really don't know what people are talking about when they say they get severe lag.
Also I don't know if this was a fluke but I didn't hear a bag drop sound when I got a soulbound pot earlier (makes it hard to know you got one).
Why did you make the soulbounds invisible to others? This game is about showing off. A bag with YOUR name on it basically says '____ owns' to all the other players on the server just like a grave says '____ sucks' and that was awesome.
Can we please have ALL the gods drop ALL the potions at a 4% rate? (Dungeons should be rarer as well)
Improvement for the worse
I am heavily disappointed by how much you ignore all constructive criticism in the testing thread.
Invisible bags just lower the drop rate EVEN MORE without additional features that allow you to locate them more easily (map indicators).
In my opinion the visiblity of soulbound bags contributed to the coop aspect of this game because people could tell you when you missed it and because people (at least the nice ones) helped each other to get to the purple bag when it is surrounded by gods.
I have commented on the quiet thing at Oryx before and how it could be altered but where is the point of commenting at all when almost everything is ignored?
Let me just repeat what has already been said in this thread. It is impossible for me to dodge bombs because those huge amounts of players induce horrible lag at Oryx altogether with all these bubbles that are on the screen in that phase. It´s just cheap to be forced to doge for survival but you can´t.
Oryx
I hope he really is harder. XD Ever since I started playing my 5/6 warrior he has died on the first dancing phase every time.
Also like the sound of teleport command and necro heal.
EUNorth

Oryx Quiet
Its cheap because its impossible to dodge and keeps you from using your special for some time after the dance phase. If it only kept you from using your special during the phase it would be ok, but not the way it is now. Not to mention the lag in that phase tends to be bad.
Player-Developer Interaction
Needs to improve. Right now its pathetic and consists of the developers thinking up things that need changed (while ignoring player requests.)For example when originally Chedd was testing the quiet during the ring phase the feedback was mostly negative, and 99% of people complained about sbs not being visible to others. The devs really need to either get a player-dev or occasionally come on and talk to us. There are many minor (and some not so) things which we will notice because we play the game far more than they do.
i happen to agree with you
i happen to agree with you with the player dev
i still have no problem with the ring of quiet other than that big ass lag spike it causes. I mean, maybe quieting them for the entire phase without mana drain might be better, might not. dunno
The name ingame is Exorcist. I play in USEast. Remember it.
Different kinds of quiet
@exorcist I already proposed differnt possible kinds of "quiet" which might be more appropriate.
It appears to me that the devs care little about suggestions.
The quiet effect is only needed in order to prevent that too many people stand inside the ring, there is no reason to render the respective abilites useless for the next phases as well.

it had to be expected
with all of the bitching/whining/crying which is poured into the forums daily, you really expect the devs to pass their afternoons on the forums like they had nothing better to do than reading tons of insulting posts?
But yeah, I liked the sb drops better when those were visible to everyone, even if they occasionally went in your way when you tried to loot the public bag.

That's not really a fair
That's not really a fair assessment of the situation. It went like this:
Fuck up the game
Receive detailed feedback about what went wrong and how to fix it
Ignore it
Continue receiving feedback
Continue ignoring it
Players start resenting you
Feedback becomes less constructive because who gives a shit anymore, it's not getting read
Devs don't like reading forums because of said resentment
That said, if a dev actually posted and discussed game balance fuckups with us and what their reasoning is, or gave us ANYTHING to go on to make us feel like our feedback was listened to or taken into account, the resentment would diminish, a lot. It's mostly their blatant ignoring that's making the general attitude toward devs so shitty. I wouldn't mind the soulbound change half as much if I knew what the fuck they were going for with it and that they're aware of the feedback.
oh I forgot
yeah, I forgot to mention swearing too
it always strikes me how this kind of dynamics in game development go

Interaction between devs and players
Still it is not very intelligent to ignore criticism that is voiced in an appropriate manner.
I mean of course you can make changes that are disliked by the community and don´t care about it because some people offended you. Yet then the question emerges why you develop this game if you pay little attention to how changes are perceived.
There are a lot people that are willing to come up with ideas and solution to how the game can be improved. Lend them an open ear and involve them by explaining them why updates are made and what these updates shall fix and they will be on your side.
Dismiss their ideas and don´t care to respond at all and they will be disappointed and frustrated by how you treat them.
